how to get what u want... like for real tho

Turning your *distant dreams* into a very real reality

A few weeks back I wrote to you about ClickUp making your hopes and dreams feel possible.

My husband and I just got back from camping to celebrate our 3 year wedding anniversary (how does time go so fast??) and we spent so much of that trip talking about what we want.

We have grand plans to take our little music venture to the next level and release a full length album.

I'm such a sucker for these types of conversations. Even as a kid, I always get this old familiar feeling of butterflies in my stomach when I know I'm on to something good (Just me?? reply back and tell me if you do this too!)

There's something so inspiring about being out in the woods, away from all the stimulus and expectations of daily life.

To just lay in a hammock with my Angel Fire and my bubs and do nothing else.

Maybe we should all sit in a too-small camp chair and feel the constant burn of smoke in the eyes more often... bc the best ideas seem to happen here.

But as we were talking, my nerdy ClickUp systems brain couldn't help but take over. ๐Ÿค“

Yeah, we wanna put out an album,
Yeah we wanna tour it on the east coast...
โ€‹
โ€‹
But what does that actually look like?

How long will it actually take?

What are the actual steps we'll need to take?

I think this is where most people fall short...

Bc it's hella scary being in the unknown

Its scary putting yourself out there with no real guarantee of what will happen

But I am CONVINCED (and you cannot tell me otherwise) that...

The *antidote to this fear* is a PLAN OF ACTION

When all these big ideas take residence 100% in your head, even if it feels as obvious as bag of chips around the campfire, it's all too easy for that to shift into holy f, what am I doing territory. Then six months passes and the butterflies morph into more of a "YOU KNOW WHAT NEVERMIND" energy where all possibility goes to die. โ˜ ๏ธ

If you want those campfire hopes and dreams to actually happen... make them into a physical plan of action.

What are the bigger goals and when are they happening?

We want to release our album for Spring 2026...

We want to put together a concert series with other artists starting November 2025...

We want to go on a super sick tour of the east coast to travel and camp in Fall 2026...

Under each of your bigger goals, there may be phases to arriving at the end result.

Which helps to break it down from "I don't know wtf to do, this is overwhelming" to "I can do this"

If we want to release our album for Spring 2026, there are a few phases:

  1. Scope out the work and cost. how long will each song take? what steps do we follow for each song? roughly how long will each step take? how much time can everyone realistically commit to it per week? how much does it cost to hire a local musician to play on a track? how long does it typically take them per song?
    โ€‹
  2. Create a project plan. now with all of the process info in hand, we can turn it into a rough plan. what needs to happen when? realistically what can be achieved in one week? where do these timelines take us? what does everyone need to agree to?
    โ€‹
  3. Apply for a government grant.

And so on and so fourth... you get the idea.

(PS-Thanks for sticking with me through that. I didn't have any pen and paper on the campsite and it's been rolling around in my brain ever since.)

Before you know it, you have a *REAL PLAN*

It doesn't need to be perfect. It doesn't have to be right.

But it has to be mapped out.

And not some BS jotting down notes in your phone, you have actual projects and tasks and timelines that take you directly to the things you want for yourself.

And when you have Focus Framework in place, all you gotta do is show up every day and follow through.

(Which is a whole other set of mental gymnastics we can talk about another day)

But you don't have to go camping, Reader.

I know a lot of you might be thinking... ew, camping. It's not for everyone.

All you need is a *quiet moment* and the willingness to get specific about what you actually want

For today, try this exercise on a scrap piece of paper sitting somewhere that feels inspiring.

Write down that thing you want for yourself but it feels too big and too scary. ๐Ÿซฃ

Allow yourself to dream how you'd get there in bigger phases.

Under each phase, write down all of the steps you can think of that you'd need to take.

Boom. You have a rough plan.

How does that feel?
Where do you get hung up?
What are the sticking points?

Reply back and lets work it out together because this practice will pay off. Trust.
