Crying Over ClickUp by Robyn Henke

umm why is everything so overwhelming right now 😭

Working hard all day to feel unaccomplished? 🤬

Lately I've been feeling facking overwhelmed, friend.

Literally everything online makes me feel behind.

I'll be scrolling on LinkedIn or IG and all I can think is "I need to be better at that" and all in one breath be talking about gardening, cooking, creating content, and building a whole ass org chart of AI "staff" who will apparently do everything i'm stupid enough to still be doing myself.

WOOF.

And that's just the regular everyday anxiety we all kinda have now living in the age of internet.

So put that shit on top of how all over the place it already feels juggling multiple clients and running a whole ass business. 😬

Maybe it's just me, but freelancing is a lot... especially doing it all (or mostly) by yourself

I know exactly what it's like to jump from a sales proposal, to writing copy for a client, to a meeting, to replying to a client asking for a project update, to an email that just came in, to another meeting... it feels like NOTHING actually gets done even though you work your ass off all day long.

It sucks so hard.

It sucks even harder when all those dreams you have to create a lead magnet or start a newsletter feel less and less like they'll ever happen... 🥲

The practice of ~managing focus~ has worked wonders for me as a solo

And ClickUp is the perfect container to actually do it and do it well.

Cuz I'm gonna let you in on a little secret that I've learned through so many years of white-knuckling my way through everything: focusing on less is actually more.

If you're the type to jump around from thing to thing, and treat everything like it's of equal importance... that's the first (and easiest) thing to fix to radically reduce the suck.

The reality for freelancers (and really just humans) is that deep focus is finite

And deep focus is where the good stuff happens; the ideas, the inspiration, the fun, the whimsy!!

But when focus is spread thin, the output is thin too.

So not only are you working your ass off, but you also don't feel super great about any of it, AND there's zero time to pursue your own shit? As my dad would say... dirty deal.

As opposed to actively creating + managing a ~singular plan~ for your focus

Where nothing falls through the cracks, you effortlessly make meaningful progress every single day (including on your own stuff), and work actually starts to feels kinda... good.

I call this: The Limit of Focus

A mini-book – and a message – for all the skilled-ass freelancers white-knuckling the shit out of everything: it doesn't have to be that way.

Do you already think about your focus? Reply and tell me how you stay on track and ward off the overwhelm. I could nerd out on this stuff all day.

Until next time,

Robyn
