the *antidote* to being afraid and anxious?

Feeling afraid right now? I follow a Canadian freelance web designer on LinkedIn who posted this the other day: This is the girl who has 12K followers, posts to insane amounts of engagement, & shared how she makes at minimum $2.8K USD per week (but realistically way more). Even tho I know that social media is the highlight reel, I still found myself feeling surprised at this admission. But mostly VALIDATED AF. Scared all the time? It me. Anxious? Ask my sore ass lips. But what really HIT HOME...

those "tasks" you're actively avoiding?

Those tasks that make you wanna run tf away 🏃♀️💨 You know the ones I'm talking about, Reader. Those "oh shit... I gotta do that" moments of sinking realization. (Probably some kind of reporting. 🙃) You know it takes hours. You know it kinda sucks. And you know you're gonna avoid it as long as possible. I was working 1-on-1 with a freelancer this week on her Focus Framework, and she shared her screen to show me her biggest client's setup. One task in particular caught my eye: "Quarterly Review...

come on... work faster

The surprisingly *calming effects* of time tracking Time tracking used to stress me out. 7 years ago, I freelanced for an agency that was REAL rigid with time management. We met once a week and "committed" all the hours in our capacity to specific work. The tasks had time estimates and we would pull them in to our workload until it all equaled out. And I remember how ANXIOUS it made me Like shit, I gotta get this done in that time? And omg, the clock is ticking. f*ck... aghhhh. Fast-forward...
A screenshot of a text message conversation. The first message says "Not great. lol just buildings and we're not allowed to lift the blinds" and there is a picture of her "view" with windows and closed blinds. the next message says "why the heck would you

the *big one* for senior freelancers rn

Be our own bosses 4eva ✌️ I'm pretty sure everyone's tryna to work for themselves these days. And can you blame us when corporations are doing shit like this? 😳 Having to be somewhere all day is bad enough but not being allowed to look outside is just... weird. But ol' Robyn & Reader: we know how awesome it is to not deal with that kinda shit. Now we gotta hold on to it like crazy so it never ends. I think the one big opportunity for those of us with years of in the trenches experience is to...

your future self called: they said KEEP GOING

When you're *real intentional* with every single hour Reader, I have something really important to say to you about the act of CREATING. Well... I didn't actually say it. This person did: The *act of creating* will QUITE LITERALLY SAVE YOU A friend of mine spontaneously started writing a novel. She's a career mom of two young children who usually can't keep her eyes open by 9pm is now energetically typing away until 1:30am. Coincidence? Doubtful. I'm gonna let you in on a little secret that...

the perspective shift we all need rn 🥲

When things aren't going the way you want them to 🥲 Do you ever take a cheeky midday bath, Reader? I've been known to indulge when it's cold outside, and it kinda feels like a guilty pleasure. Like I really hope my husband doesn't come home while I'm in here even tho he would 0% judge or care at all. 🙃 But somehow it feels wrong or shameful doing something so deeply relaxing when everyone else is out in the world working away. But I've been changing my perspective on this bc of Joe...

holy sh;t there's a lot going on 😬

10 Freelancers Only | Starts Oct 15th | First 5 in get 1:1Click here to be removed from these promo emails A really big new project signed. A delayed project came back from the dead. And I still had the normal workload of my existing retainer clients. 😬 It was all happening at once. I thought for a second about how I would've handled this before ClickUp: → doing the same things for clients but constantly reinventing the wheel → taking time to make a fresh to-do list every single day →...

has this week been hard for you, too?

My *antidote* to uncertainty This has been a trying week for me, and I wonder if you're feeling it too. I'm pretty sure the most uncomfortable and unnatural place to hang out is in uncertainty. And being self-employed is a WHOLE big mess of that. I know for me, when I feel uncertainty in my business, I'm even more vulnerable to ALL the uncertainties in the world (and there are many). It's like if I'm worried about one thing, I'm more likely to worry about all things. I've seen it on LinkedIn...

take time off = freak tf out 😬

10 Freelancers Only | Starts Oct 15th | First 5 in get 1:1Click here to be removed from these promo emails Focus Framework is about getting control of your workload, yes. But also getting control of your MIND. Bc shit, it's easy to spin out when there's a lot to do and only so many hours in the day. You be working your lil' tushie off to get it all done, while the "you work too much" comment your mom casually dropped eats away in the back of your mind. So you decide to take an afternoon off....

when everything just... flows

The ClickUp long game Does your laptop randomly turn on do not disturb mode while you're working? I don't how it started... I didn't turn it on, but I actually really like it bc nothing pulls me out of flow faster than a text message. Quieting distractions and focusing is kinda key to getting anything done that you're even remotely proud of. For me, that looks like: Silence while i'm writing DND on my phone & laptop Resisting every urge to refresh my email bc it's very clearly procrastination...
